Many educational opportunities and resources for the development of our workforce life-long learning, and special skills enhancement are available in Central Pennsylvania. Whether participating in the secondary public education system or state-owned institutions and private sector colleges and universities, or trade, charter and private schools, residents stay current with training and education. Employers benefit from customized training programs that enhance their workforce skills, and convenient access to numerous local education agencies in addition to a truck driving school.

SECONDARY AND HIGH LEVEL EDUCATION
For high level education, Central Pennsylvania is host to Penn State University and its affiliate technical and trade school Penn College of Technology as well as Bucknell University. Central Pennsylvania also provides its residents with a broad choice of liberal arts Universities as well as vocational and specialized schools offering such curriculums as nursing, computer and telecommunications.

PRIMARY EDUCATION
Central Pennsylvania offers its families and youth a broad range of primary educational options from which to choose. Public and Private Schools providing specialized education in the arts and sciences are available. School sizes range from graduating classes up to 700 persons down to a small private school with graduating classes of about 50. With the help of their adult mentors, Central Pennsylvania youth have placed in the top three in all age groups in the world renowned odyssey of the mind competitions at the national level. In addition, in U.S. News & World Reports best high school ratings. two of our highschools won silver medals and another two won bronze medals.

Colleges/Universities

Bloomsburg University
Enrollment: 8,600 students

Bloomsburg University has 63 undergraduate majors and 18 graduate programs with a strong reputation for teacher education. Programs of study include the arts and humanities, sciences, education, health care, and business

Founded in 1839 as a four-year, public university, Bloomsburg is one of 14 members of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education.

In conjunction with academic programs, the university serves the region's schools, businesses and health care needs with a professional Speech, Hearing and Language Clinic; the Institute for Interactive Technologies, Corporate Institute, the Reading Center, and Continuing Education programs.

The U.S. News & World Report 2006 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” guide ranks Bloomsburg as one of the Best University Master's Degrees in the north region.

Lock Haven University
Enrollment: 4,600 students

Lock Haven University has more than 75 undergraduate programs and three graduate programs. These include elementary education, business administration, and health care professions as well as many others.

LHU has an outstanding international mission, offering 21 programs in 17 countries.

In 1983, the university joined the State System of Higher Education and became Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania College of Technology
Enrollment: 5,900 students

Penn College has 28 Bachelor degrees and 80 Associate degrees with the largest majors being Computer Information Technology, Business Management, Electronics Technology and Computer Science.

Bucknell University
Enrollment: 3,500 students

Bucknell students have their choice of 53 majors and 64 minors including professional programs for accounting, management, education and engineering as well as pre-professional programs for law and medicine.

Bucknell ranks 27th in the top 50 Best Liberal Arts Colleges according to a survey of college presidents and deans (U.S. News and World Report's 2006 edition of America's Best Colleges. The engineering program is ranked as the 8th Best Undergraduate Engineering Program among non-Ph.D.-granting schools.

“Peterson’s Top Colleges of Science,” a national reference guide, named Bucknell as having one of the top 190 science programs in the country. Programs in biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics and astronomy were judged at more than 1,400 institutions nationwide.

Susquehanna University
Enrollment: 2,000 students

Susquehanna University offers more than 50 majors and 48 minors through three schools: School of Arts, Humanities and Communications; School of Natural and Social Sciences; and the Sigmund Weis School of Business.

The U.S. News & World Report 2006 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” guide ranks Susquehanna in the top 10 list of the Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the Northeast for the 7th straight year.

Susquehanna University ranks #2 in Yahoo’s Internet Life’s list of the “100 Most Wired Baccalaureate II Colleges.”

Lycoming College
2005 Fall Enrollment: 1,486 students

Lycoming College offers 33 majors, which include Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics as well as pre-professional programs for Law and Medicine.

Juniata College

Juniata is an independent, co-educational college of liberal arts and sciences.
